Naperville Roofing SEO: Our First 90 Days If We Started Today
Most roofing SEO advice is generic. This is not. Here is the exact plan we would run for a Naperville roofing company starting today, in the order we would do it.
If a Naperville roofing company hired us today, we would not start with blog posts or backlinks. We would start with the things that decide who gets the phone call: the Google map, the website, and trust.
This is a plan, not a case study. It is the order we work in, with the Naperville details filled in. If you own a roofing company in Naperville or nearby, you can use it as a checklist.
What makes Naperville roofing different
Naperville is a big market. The 2020 Census counted 149,540 people, and the city sits in both DuPage and Will counties. That means a lot of roofs and a lot of roofers competing for them.
Storms matter here. On June 20, 2021, an EF-3 tornado started in Naperville and damaged about 130 homes, much of it in the Ranch View neighborhood. After a storm like that, demand jumps overnight. So do out-of-town storm chasers.
The rules matter too. Illinois requires every roofing contractor to hold a state license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). There is a limited license for homes of up to eight units and an unlimited license for all property types. The City of Naperville also reminds homeowners that it is their job to make sure any roofer they hire is licensed by the state.
Naperville has its own permit rules as well. The city says you do not need a building permit to replace an asphalt shingle roof on a single family home, as long as the roof sheathing stays in place. Metal, wood, slate, and membrane roofs do need a permit. Homeowners search for these answers, and a good roofing website should have them.

Days 1 to 30: fix the foundation
The first month is about getting found and getting trusted. Nothing else works until this is done.
- Google Business Profile. Set the main category to Roofing contractor. Add every real service: roof replacement, roof repair, storm damage repair, gutters if you do them. Set your service area to Naperville and the towns you actually serve, like Aurora, Plainfield, Lisle, Warrenville, Wheaton, and Bolingbrook. If customers do not come to your office, hide the address. Google asks service area businesses to do that.
- Your license number, in plain sight. Put your IDFPR roofing license number on your website. Illinois law already requires it on your contracts and advertising, and homeowners look for it.
- A website that works on a phone. After a storm, homeowners search on their phones. The site needs to load fast, show a tap-to-call button on every page, and have a short quote form.
- Call and form tracking. Set it up on day one so we can measure what brings in real jobs, not just visits.
- Matching listings. Check that your name, address, and phone number match everywhere: Google, Yelp, the BBB, Angi, Houzz, and Nextdoor.
Days 31 to 60: build pages that match how Naperville searches
People do not search for "roofing company." They search for a job and a place. Your website needs a page for each one.
- One page per service. Roof replacement in Naperville. Roof repair. Storm and hail damage. Gutters. Each page gets real detail about how you do the work, what it costs to plan for, and what to expect.
- Pages for nearby towns, done right. A real page for each town you serve, with local jobs and photos. Not the same page with the town name swapped out.
- Answers to local questions. "Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Naperville?" "How do I check a roofer's Illinois license?" These are real searches, and the answers are short. They bring in homeowners early, before they pick a roofer.
- Project pages. Every finished roof becomes a page: the area, the material, the problem, and before and after photos. These pages rank for local searches and prove you do the work.
- A storm page, built before the storm. Explain what to do after hail or wind damage, how an insurance claim works, and how to spot a storm chaser. Publish it in spring, not the morning after a storm. By then it is too late to rank.
Days 61 to 90: reviews, proof, and AI answers
- A simple review system. Ask every happy customer, every time, with a direct link. Reply to every review, good or bad. Reviews that mention the work and the area help, but never script them.
- Fresh photos every week. Upload real job photos to your Google Business Profile. Stock photos do nothing for you.
- Be easy for AI to quote. More homeowners now ask Google AI Mode or ChatGPT to recommend a roofer. These tools pull from clear facts: your license, your service area, your years in business, the materials you install. Write those facts in plain text on your site. Our guide to getting cited in Google AI Overviews explains how.
- Local links. Join the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce. Sponsor a local team or event. Get listed by suppliers and manufacturers you are certified with.
What we would never do
- Buy or fake reviews. Google removes them, and the FTC now fines businesses for fake reviews.
- Stuff keywords into the business name. "Best Naperville Roofing Hail Repair" on your Google profile can get it suspended.
- Chase storms outside your area. It burns money and reviews. Win your own backyard first.
What to expect by day 90
Be honest with yourself about timing. By day 90, you should see your map rankings improve in the parts of town closest to you, and your service and question pages start to show up for longer searches. The big one, "roofer Naperville," takes longer. It is the most competitive search in town, and it is earned with steady reviews and new project pages over months, not weeks.
The good news is that most roofers stop after the first month. The ones who keep going are the ones who end up at the top.
